How we define self-care is similar to the way we define success; different for everyone. I want to emphasize, that the self-care journey is specific to each individual. Where I may want to see changes in my mental health may be different from someone else's, therefore there is no one way or rule book to how we choose to care for ourselves. But the ultimate goal is to better ourselves as a whole.
There's a quote that says: "We spend a lot of time in our minds. Make sure it's a nice place to be." Taking the time to understand our minds and engaging in practices that help us understand how to love and accept ourselves without conditions is one of the most powerful things we can do. In this world, we get caught up in our job, school, and other responsibilities. Practicing self-care allows us to take the world off of our shoulders even if it's just for 5 minutes. Our minds are the temple that allows us to manifest, imagine, and create anything into a reality, but when it is cluttered because of the failure to take time for our selves, we can't do that.
What I've learned the most about self-care is that it is easier than most people think. When was the last time you breathed? Well, we breathe every day, we do it so much that we are no longer conscious of when we are doing it. But it wasn't until I started using an app on my watch where I realized this. It timed me for only one minute, taking me through the inhales and exhales, making sure that each breath was even. After each session, of me simply just breathing, and not thinking of anything else in that one minute, my mind felt clear. And that is an example of self-care.
However, you may choose to practice self-care, remember to always be kind to yourself. Understand that no matter where you are in your life, you are exactly where you need to be. Beatrice Kamau, a healing coach compared self-love to a stockmarket. There are highs and lows and unexpected dips, but it always goes up. So be patient, and smile along the way.
